Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Creates Partnership With Venture Capital Firm

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has established a relationship with venture capital fund Osage University Partners to commercialize the hospital's academic research.

OUP, also based in Philadelphia, is an arm of Osage Partners that focuses on intellectual property and commercialization with universities and academic medical centers. OUP has partnerships with other major research hubs across the country, including Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and Duke University in Durham, N.C.

"This partnership offers a mechanism to move our hospital's innovative research into the marketplace and better provide health benefits to children and families worldwide," said Philip Johnson, MD, chief scientific officer at CHOP, in a news release.

Intellectual property and commercialization of medical innovations has become a growing field within the healthcare sector. Cleveland Clinic, for example, has actively worked with other organizations to bring medical innovations to the marketplace.
