ASC X12 Holds Off on Issuing 6020 Standards

Healthcare providers are currently scrambling to be compliant with the HIPAA Version 5010 electronic transactions standards by March 31, and in light of that obligation, the Accredited Standards Committee X12 will not recommend its 6020 Type 3 Technical Reports for HIPAA adoption, according to an ASC X12 news release (pdf).

ASC X12 made the decision to not issue 6020 TR3s because "the healthcare industry is better served at this by time by a reassurance that the 5010 implementations will have time to mature before another version is recommended for adoption," according to the release.

However, the business standards organization still encouraged healthcare stakeholders to review the 6020 TRs currently posted for public comment. The 6020 version will serve as the foundation for ASC X12's next recommended transaction standards.
