Medicaid Recovery Auditors, or RACs, have been making their way into the hospital space, and according to a Craneware presentation, Medicaid RACs are paid somewhat differently from Medicare RACs.
Here are three things to know about Medicaid RAC contingency fees.
• Medicaid RAC contingency feeds are negotiated by each state with the contractor but may not exceed the maximum amount for Medicare RACs (which is 12.5 percent of an overpayment).
• A state that prohibits contingency fee contracting could be exempt from paying on a contingency basis.
• States may only pay Medicaid RACs contingency fees from overpayments collected.
