10 Hospitals With the Highest Heart Attack Treatment Charges

Hospitals are keeping an even closer eye on heart attack patients and their care coordination, as hospitals are attempting to reduce their readmission rates under value-based purchasing. However, like many other procedures, hospital charges vary widely for heart attack patients, with treatment prices ranging from $4,400 to almost $108,000.

Earlier this month, CMS released a trove of hospital inpatient billing data in an effort to increase price transparency. The data, which come from fiscal year 2011, detail charges and payments for the top 100 most frequently billed inpatient discharges for the 3,000-plus hospitals paid under Medicare's inpatient prospective payment system.

Here are the 10 hospitals that recorded the highest charges for heart attack treatments in FY 2011. Note: Data come directly from CMS' database of hospital charges and reflect only hospitals paid under Medicare's IPPS. Data specifically reflects MS-DRG 282, acute myocardial infarction, discharged alive without major complications and comorbidities.
