Researchers found Toronto hospitals were more likely to report infectious outbreaks on Mondays and Fridays, suggesting lower weekend staffing may be contributing to delayed reporting, according to a study published in the American Journal of Infection Control.
For the study, researchers assessed 901 reported outbreaks among Toronto healthcare facilities. They found healthcare facilities were less likely to report outbreaks on Saturdays and Sundays and more likely to report outbreaks on Mondays and Fridays. The researcher concluded this may be due to "deadline" and "catch-up" reporting caused by weekend staffing.
