Utah's House of Representatives has voted 48-22 to approve a bill that would require all healthcare facilities to report infection rates to the Department of Health, according to a Salt Lake Tribune report.
The legislation, which is sponsored by Rep. Jack R. Draxler (R-Logan), would require hospitals, outpatient surgical facilities and dialysis centers to report data on bacterial, viral or fungal infections acquired by patients to the state Department of Health. The department would, in turn, publish and update the data annually.
The bill now goes to the Senate floor for a vote.
