The Leapfrog Group announced its annual list of "Top Hospitals" to recognize hospitals that provide high-quality care by preventing medical errors, reducing mortality for high-risk procedures and reducing hospital readmissions.
The list includes 13 Top Rural Hospitals, 67 Top Urban Hospitals and 12 Top Children's Hospitals out of nearly 1,200 hospitals that voluntarily and publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The survey focuses on three main areas: how patients fare, resources used to care for patients and management practices that promote safety and quality.
For the first time, hospitals named to the list had to earn an "A" on Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Score, which was updated last week, in addition to meeting standards from the survey. The safety score is based on 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.
