The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation announced it has granted $1.9 million to PatientsLikeMe to create an open-participation research platform to develop patient-centered health outcome measures.
PatientsLikeMe is a network of patients who monitor their health and contribute to medical research. Through the grant, PatientsLikeMe will create a platform from which researchers can attract PatientsLikeMe members to studies on health outcome measures. Researchers will track newly developed measures and patients will offer feedback to ensure the measures are relevant to them, according to the release.
The goal of the project is to develop health outcome measures that "better reflect patients' experiences with a disease, and assess health and quality of life in ways that matter to patients," according to the release.
As an open-participation research initiative, people will be able to access the new platform and use all instruments and items developed on the platform for free.
