The Leapfrog Group announced hospitals made only incremental progress in their Hospital Safety Scores since November 2012.
The Leapfrog Group assigned A, B, C, D or F grades to hospitals based on a total of 26 process and outcome measures of publicly available hospital safety data. The methodology is published in Journal of Patient Safety.
Here are some key findings from the latest safety scores:
• Of 2,514 general hospitals given a safety score, approximately 31 percent received an A, 25.4 percent received a B, 37.1 percent received a C, 5.9 percent received a D and 0.6 percent received an F.
• 1.9 percent of hospitals moved two or more grade levels up or down since November, while approximately 73.9 percent of hospitals earned the same score.
• No one type of hospital (such as teaching hospitals or public hospitals) earned a higher percentage of A's than another.
