CDC issues health advisory on measles amid uptick in cases

After 16 confirmed cases of measles in the U.S., 88 percent of which were linked with international travel, the CDC on June 21 issued a health advisory warning about the uptick.

At this same time in 2022, the U.S. had only three reported cases during the first half of the year.

Prior to any travel, especially international travel, the CDC recommends everyone over the age of 6 receive the MMR vaccine.

For health departments and clinicians, in addition to reporting cases, the agency recommends they also "conduct active surveillance for any additional cases and facilitate transportation of specimens immediately to confirm diagnosis," due to the virus' highly contagious properties.
