If another public health crisis struck tomorrow, how would each state fare?

Nonprofit health and policy organization Trust for America's Health released its annual report examining population size, budget, vaccination rates, disease control, water systems, comprehensive services offered, accreditations and other factors to determine how states stack up in terms of public health preparedness.

When a public health crisis does arise, here are the states the organization found would be most prepared — a tier that included Washington, D.C.:

  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Mississippi
  • New Jersey

  • Ohio
