The CDC's latest update shows flu activity increased in Central and Midwestern states in the week ending Feb. 3.
Flu activity increased in HHS regions 5 (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin) and 7 (Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas), driven primarily by a rise in percent positivity for Influenza B, the CDC said in its latest FluView report.
Meanwhile, flu admissions and emergency department visits fell in the week ending Feb. 3.
Overall, respiratory virus activity — which is a measure of outpatient visits for fever and cough or sore throat — remains elevated in many areas of the country, though hospitalizations are decreasing.
COVID-19 admissions fell 10% in the same week, marking the fourth straight week of decreases. Respiratory syncytial virus activity is decreasing in many areas of the country, and hospitalization rates continue to fall among young children, though they remain high in older adults.
