Measles activity is rising nationwide, with more than one-third of states reporting new cases in 2024, CDC data shows.
The agency has confirmed 139 measles cases nationwide as of May 16. This tally is more than double the 58 total cases seen in 2023.
While the risk for widespread measles transmission remains low, the rapid increase in cases this year "represents a renewed threat to elimination," the CDC said April 11.
The following 20 states have reported measles cases since Jan. 1:

- California
- Florida
- Georgia
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Louisiana
- Maryland
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- Vermont
- Virginia
- Washington
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
