Respiratory disease reporting begins Jan. 1 for long-term care facilities

Beginning Jan. 1, long-term care facilities are required to report acute respiratory illness data to CMS as part of the agency's 2025 Home Health Prospective Payment System Rate update.

Long-term care facilities must specifically report a facility census of resident vaccination status, confirmed resident cases and residents hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, influenza and RSV, overall and by vaccination status, according to a Dec. 31 memo from CMS.

The agency is developing compliance evaluation guidance for facility surveyors, the memo said.
