The New York State Department of Health is investigating an Auburn nursing home after a video of one of its employees sleeping on the job went viral, ABC affiliate WSYR reported April 3.
The video showed an employee of Auburn Rehabilitation & Nursing Center either sleeping or falling asleep while standing at a station. It is unknown if the employee's behavior was caused by sleep deprivation, a medical emergency or something else, according to the report. The video was posted by another nursing home employee.
The facility launched an internal investigation.
"Auburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is aware of a video posted to social media depicting a staff member in our facility," Judson MacCaull, administrator of the nursing home, told WSYR. "We take the matter very seriously. It was promptly reported to our oversight agencies, and we continue to cooperate fully with them. We also commenced an immediate internal investigation and will take appropriate responsive action to protect the health and safety of our residents and staff."
