Montana's largest SNF loses Medicaid funding, closes

Montana's largest skilled nursing facility is closing after its Medicare and Medicaid program was terminated due to a CMS finding of a history of serious deficiencies in patient care and quality, the Great Falls Tribune reported July 18.

The Ivy At Great Falls (Mont.), a 278-bed facility, informed residents and their families June 25 that the facility's license was suspended and all residents would be transferred by Aug. 9. CMS terminated its relationship with the facility July 9 and allowed reimbursement for care provided to current residents for 30 days.

A Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services spokesperson told the news outlet that about 61% of the facility's residents have been moved or accepted and await transfer as of July 15.

The Ivy is part of a national network of senior care facilities owned by business partners in a private investment group. The Ivy had the most serious recording deficiencies of any nursing home in the state and accumulated more than $235,000 in fines from CMS in the last several years.
