Planned Parenthood will close two of its clinics in Ohio Sept. 20 due to a loss of state and federal funding, according to The Hill.
The nonprofit reproductive healthcare organization blamed the closures on politicians working to defund it for performing abortions. The organization told The Hill that neither clinic closing this month performed abortions.
Planned Parenthood gave up millions of dollars in federal funding in August after the Trump administration said it needed to comply with a new rule banning it from referring women for abortions if it wanted to continue receiving government money.
Republican legislators in Ohio cut about $600,000 in state funding from Planned Parenthood this year after receiving approval to strip the funding from a federal appeals court. Currently, there are five other Planned Parenthood clinics in the Southwest Ohio region and 26 total in the state.
