Man turns abandoned California medical center into art gallery

After a fraud scandal shuttered the Los Angeles Metropolitan Medical Center, one art dealer turned three abandoned floors of the hospital into a sprawling art gallery — with pieces of the original facility on display alongside the art, according to Time Out Los Angeles.

Curator John Wolf said his project Human Condition is meant to capture the unsettling mood of the abandoned space.

Visitors can explore the entire hospital, where they encounter various themed mini-galleries as well as rooms full of medical equipment and objects that haven't been touched since the hospital closed. The gallery hosts paintings, sculptures and installation works by nearly 80 artists from across the world, according to L.A. Weekly.

"You get this sense of the raw vulnerability of just being in a hospital," Mr. Wolf told Time Out Los Angeles.

Human Condition is open to the public Fridays through Sundays until November 30.
