Although population health initiatives are gaining momentum, a recent brief published by HIMSS Analytics revealed the adoption of vendor-provided population health solutions is still somewhat sluggish.
Information in the brief was pulled from HIMSS' 2015 Population Health Study, which includes insight from nearly 200 healthcare executives on their current population health initiatives and their future approach to population health IT solutions and use of consultants.
Highlighted below are four highlights from the study.
1. Of the responents with population health initiatives currently in place, approximately 11 percent use a consultant to oversee their population health strategy.
2. Of the responents without population health initiatives in place, more than half plan to employ initiatives in the future.
3. Roughly one-third of organizations that plan to implement initiatives in the future reported intentions to use a consultant or said they would consider it.
4. About two-thirds (67 percent) of the respondents report having population health programs in place, but only one quarter of those currently use a vendor-provided solution to address their population health needs.
