Children's Wisconsin in Milwaukee has created a plan to address mental and behavioral health needs among the state's children, which would require an estimated $150 million in funding.
The hospital has identified seven initiatives that could help pinpoint mental and behavioral health needs more quickly, improve access to needed services and mitigate the stigma around mental healthcare. The initiatives include implementing universal screening for mental health and expanding school-based programs for mental and behavioral health across Wisconsin.
Fundraising has begun, with Kohl's donating $5 million, Rexnord Foundation giving $1 million and Boldt Corp. also giving $1 million.
Funds will also be collected from several other sources, including the state and federal government, partnerships and direct investments by Children's Wisconsin.
"We know our community looks to us to do what is best for kids," said Peggy Troy, president and CEO of the hospital. "Children's Wisconsin has more than 2 million touch points with kids across the state each year. We believe this plan identifies how Children's Wisconsin can impact a significant number of kids in the state."
