Author, celebrity chef, restaurateur and TV personality Michelle Bernstein has partnered with Hollywood, Fla.-based Memorial Cancer Institute to create a collection of healthy recipes, according to a Miami Herald report.
During the year-long partnership, Ms. Bernstein will develop signature dishes and adapt several of her own to help cancer patients through their treatment. Recipes will include snacks, soups, salads and sandwiches.
The project is close to Ms. Bernstein's heart considering she was born at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla. and her mother is going through chemotherapy for lung cancer, according to the report.
"Through [my mother], I have learned some of what she can and cannot eat and what affects her palate," Ms. Bernstein told the Miami Herald. "We are trying to give the patients a little gift, something that says we love you, we are here to take care of you."
Nutrient dense dishes will be created with cancer patients in mind, meaning they will be more plant-based and have less sugar and acid and have more antioxidants.
The recipes were introduced at Memorial on World Cancer Day (Feb. 4) and will be made available to individuals receiving outpatient treatment beginning March 1.
