A Nevada-based vaccination organization said it had to cancel two in-person events in December after anti-vaccination activists launched an online harassment campaign against it, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Officials from Immunize Nevada said in a news release that events planned in Reno and Las Vegas in early December had to be canceled after anti-vaccination activists began harassing the venues online, "prompting concerns of demonstrations at the events."
Anti-vaccination activists took to social media, posting on the venues' Yelp and Facebook pages. One poster said a venue was "supporting Big Pharma's agenda by hosting a vaccine incentive program."
Immunize Nevada canceled events and instead held a virtual fundraiser, which raised almost $15,000. The funds will be used to provide vaccines at no-cost to low-income community members, those without insurance and senior citizens.
