2 New Jersey universities partner to meet healthcare needs of community

Rutgers University-Camden (N.J.) and Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., have partnered to provide healthcare and legal services to the residents of Camden, according to a report by The Inquirer.

Students from Rowan University's Cooper Medical School already provide care to the community via student-run clinics. Under the new partnership, Rutgers-Camden students of law, nursing and social work will join Rowan and the Camden Coalition of Health Care Providers to meet residents' healthcare needs beyond direct medical assistance.

For instance, students can help community members with chronic conditions navigate the paperwork to receive the appropriate Social Security benefits.

The universities' boards of governors have authorized $25,000 to initiate the program, which may begin to include postgraduate fellowships later in the year.
