CVS Health is investing $7.7 million into an affordable housing project in Tampa, Fla., the company announced Nov. 22.
The project is a 61-unit, multifamily property that targets a community where 75 percent of residents identify as Black or Latino and 60 percent live below the poverty line.
In an effort to address social and racial disparities in the area, CVS Health is also working with local nonprofits and government offices to connect residents with programming and resources.
"When people have access to high-quality, affordable housing, it puts them in a better position to take care of their health and manage chronic disease," said David Casey, senior vice president of workforce strategies and chief diversity officer at CVS Health. "As part of our commitment to address social justice and racial inequity, we're addressing social determinants of health at the community level in Tampa, which is where we can make a meaningful and lasting impact."
