Walgreens shaking up C-suite

Walgreens has hired five executives tasked with improving operations as the pharmacy retail giant works through industry headwinds, according to retail news website KamCity.

"We are acting quickly to address select areas of operational weakness with a number of senior appointments, choosing new talent with new ideas and new approaches to drive more rapid change in a number of areas of our business," Walgreens CEO Stefano Pessina told investors on its second-quarter earnings call.

A look at five recent C-suite hires:

1. Gunjan Bhow will serve as chief digital officer. He previously served in leadership positions at Disney, Amazon and Microsoft.

2. Heather Dixon will serve as global controller and chief accounting officer. Ms. Dixon previously served as controller and chief accounting officer of health insurer Aetna.

3. Vineet Mehara will serve as chief marketing officer. He previously served as global CMO at Ancestry.com and also served as a global president at Johnson & Johnson.

4. Annie Murphy will serve as global chief commercial officer. She was previously senior vice president and chief customer officer at Walgreens.

5. Colin Nelson will serve as chief global supply chain officer. Mr. Nelson previously served in leadership positions for GlaxoSmithKline and agri-food giant Bunge.
