Amid a growing cry from pharmacy organizations to boost pharmacists' roles, Walgreens said Oct. 26 that its 24,000 pharmacy workers will soon be evaluated for patient care and outcomes as the company eliminates "all task-based metrics."
The Deerfield, Ill.-based retail chain said the change will influence a better work environment.
"The change in approach to talent management also comes as Walgreens is laying the groundwork for new areas of pharmacist care, such as testing and treating routine illnesses," Walgreens said.
Pharmacy organizations such as the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists have rallied for regulatory agencies to allow pharmacists to have more roles, and a CVS Health report published Oct. 25 advocated for expanded pharmacy roles.
