Rutland Pharmacy, an independent pharmacy in Vermont, is suing a New York insurer, MVP Health Care, for pushing its customers to use a mail order pharmacy to fill prescriptions, according to the Burlington Free Press.
MVP healthcare allegedly is designating medications as specialty drugs so that customers use a mail order pharmacy to fill them, according to the lawsuit.
Rutland Pharmacy claims that it lost more than $100,000 in revenue as a result of the alleged practice.
MVP Health Care denies its practices are unlawful.
