Twitter to support DEA's Prescription Drug Take Back Day: 5 notes

Twitter is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for its 17th national Prescription Drug Take Back Day April 27.

Five notes:

1. The program, which occurs twice a year, provides Americans with safe disposal locations for medications. It launched in 2010.

2. For the event, Twitter is re-launching a custom emoji and corresponding #TakeBackDay hashtags it released for the campaign in 2018.

3. The 16th national Drug Take Back Day, held in October 2018, brought in 914,236 pounds of unused or expired medications. There were 5,839 collection sites and 4,770 law enforcement participants.

4. Twitter also plans to update its rules in the next few weeks to provide additional clarity regarding the social media giant's treatment of illegal sales of regulated drugs on its platform, according to a company blog post by Twitter Public Policy Manager Lauren Culbertson.

5. In addition to removing any tweets that offer to sell opioids and regulated drugs, Twitter also implemented internal processes and anti-spam tools to enforce its rules regarding drug-related content, Ms. Culbertson wrote.
