Democrats say President Donald Trump is reneging on a campaign pledge to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, according to The Hill.
President Trump previously said the administration would "negotiate like crazy" when it came to drug prices and refrained from criticizing a bill introduced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., that would allow Medicare to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies, according to the report.
That is until Nov. 22, when the president took to Twitter to voice his concerns with the bill. The Hill points to a Nov. 21 meeting between President Trump and Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., who has been a vocal opponent of the plan, as the turning point.
Instead, a Senate bipartisan drug pricing bill that would cap out-of-pocket costs and price increases has caught President Trump's eye, according to the report.
