Sanofi pledges about $11M to rebuild Notre Dame, faces criticism

French drugmaker Sanofi pledged about $11 million to rebuild Notre Dame after a fire severely damaged parts of the famous cathedral in Paris, according to PharmaPhorum.

"It is with deep sadness that we witnessed the fire that ravaged #NotreDame, this architectural jewel of our heritage," Sanofi tweeted April 17. "As this tragic event touches all of us at Sanofi, we will be participating in its rebuilding."

The reaction to Sanofi's donation on Twitter has been mixed, according to the report.  While some people praised the move, other Twitter users criticized the company for providing money to rebuild the cathedral but not helping people affected by the side effects of its epilepsy drug that has been linked to severe birth defects.
