The number of applications to PharmD programs are at their lowest since the 2003-04 school year, according to a report from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
In the 2021-22 school year, 11,219 people used the Pharmacy College Application Service to apply to multiple PharmD programs, the report found. Compared to the year prior, the number of applicants fell about 16 percent.
Depending on application and applicant data, the peaks differ but the downward trend casts a similar picture. The 2009-10 school year had the highest number of applications with 86,350 submitted. That figure has since shrunk to 32,848 — about a 62 percent decrease.
The 2012-13 school year saw the largest number of applicants with 17,617. About a decade later, the number of people applying to PharmD programs has fallen 36 percent to 11,219 in the most recent school year.
