"Pharma Bro" Martin Skhreli has been moved from a federal prison in New Jersey after reports surfaced that he was running his pharmaceutical company from behind bars with a contraband cellphone, according to CNBC.
Mr. Shkreli had been in a low-security prison in Fort Dix serving a seven-year sentence for defrauding investors.
He's now at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he'll remain until he is transferred to a federal prison in Allenwood, Pa., according to prison officials.
The Bureau of Prisons told CNBC it would not share the reason an inmate was transferred to a different institution, but said “there are a number of factors that must be considered … [including] the level of security and supervision the inmate requires, medical and programming needs and other considerations, including proximity to an individual's release residence."
Mr. Skhreli gained notoriety for inflating the price of a lifesaving anti-infection drug by 5,000 percent overnight. The move, paired with his lack of remorse, earned Mr. Shkreli the nickname "pharma bro."
