Patients treated with Civica Rx's first medication

Civica Rx's first medication was given to patients at a Utah hospital Oct. 2.

Patients at Riverton (Utah) Hospital received Civica Rx's vancomycin, a common antibiotic. It's the first medication the company has distributed since it was founded in September 2018.

Vancomycin has often been in short supply at Riverton Hospital and thousands of other hospitals across the country, according to the company's news release.

The antibiotics were supplied through Civica Rx's partnership with Xellia Pharmaceuticals.

Civica Rx's vancomycin is expected to be available to all health systems by the end of October. It also plans to deliver another antibiotic, daptomycin, shortly after.

Riverton Hospital is part of the Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare, one of the founding health systems of Civica Rx.
