National organization Patients for Affordable Drugs named Merith Basey as its executive director Sept. 19.
For the last eight years, Ms. Basey was the executive director of Universities Allied for Essential Medicines, a global company that works to boost access and lower prices of medicines researched and developed at universities.
"I believe that no one should be poor because they are sick or be sick because they are poor," Ms. Basey said in a news release. "Looking forward, there are other key areas of the drug price system that must be tackled: patent reform, ensuring PBMs actually benefit patients and fair launch prices for new drugs."
