Eight healthcare organizations — including UnitedHealth Group's OptumRx and Cigna's Pharmacy Management unit — were recognized March 5 by the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute for their efforts and contributions to pharmacy management.
The awards ceremony, in Palm Springs, Calif., honors organizations that deployed programs related to cost containment, quality improvement, opioid management and care management.
Below are the recipients:
Cost containment winners
- Cigna Pharmacy Management was recognized for its integrated medical, pharmacy and behavioral health benefits, driving insights into more customer data and helping customers maximize cost-saving opportunities.
- Truveris, a software company, was recognized for its flexible solution, TruGuard, which readjudicates 100 percent of a plan's pharmacy claims for errors.
Opioid management winner
- OptumRx was recognized for its opioid risk management program, which helped reduce excessive dispensing and prescribing of opioids.
Quality improvement winners
- DST Health, a solutions provider now rebranded as SS&C DST Health, and Bridgecom, a communications provider, were recognized for improving member experience through their partnership that aims to operationalize technology and workflow innovations.
Care management strategy winners
- Abarca Health, a health insurer with PBM services, received the care management strategy award for its disaster preparation and recovery program. The program helped enable prescription benefits through Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
- Southwire Pharmacy and Premise Health, a Brentwood, Tenn.-based direct primary care company, were recognized for their integrated care model that combines a clinical pharmacist-led diabetes program, multidisciplinary team integration and EHR integration.
