Lower prescription costs a top priority for half of registered voters, poll finds

Half of registered voters said passing a bill to bring down prescription drug costs should be lawmakers' top priority in a survey conducted by Morning Consult and Politico

The survey of 1,991 registered voters, conducted between April 30 and May 3, found that 85 percent of them said lawmakers should prioritize passing a bill to bring down prescription drug costs, and 50 percent said it should be a top priority, The Hill reported.

Reducing healthcare costs and prescription drug costs were higher priorities for registered voters than any other issues in the survey, including stimulating the economy during the pandemic, reforming immigration policy, regulating tech companies and legalizing marijuana.

President Joe Biden called on Congress in April to pass legislation to lower prescription drug prices this year. But drug-pricing legislation was left out of the American Families Plan, a package that contained proposals on paid leave and child care, despite efforts from some congressional Democrats to include it. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also pushed for inclusion of drug-pricing legislation in the American Families Plan.
