EpiPen shortage will drag on: 4 things to know

Mylan is expecting shortages of its EpiPen auto-injector to continue, according to an update on the FDA product shortages list.

Four things to know:

1. Mylan cited manufacturing delays as the main reason for the continuing shortage.

2. Meridian Medical Technologies, which manufactures EpiPen and its authorized generic version, is under investigation after being cited by regulators for failing to look into problems related to patient deaths. Meridian is a subsidiary of Pfizer.

3. Mylan, which distributes EpiPen, said it would expedite shipments to wholesalers as soon as it gets the product from Pfizer. Supplies will vary among pharmacies, Mylan said.

5. The EpiPen shortage dates to May 2018, according to WebMD. Manufacturing delays have been cited as the main cause of shortages in the past.
