76% of community pharmacies face staffing shortages

More than three-fourths of community pharmacies are struggling with staff shortages, according to a survey released Aug. 11 by the National Community Pharmacists Association.

The survey is based on responses from about 360 pharmacy owners and managers collected between July 25 and Aug. 5.

Three findings:

1. Seventy-six percent of respondents said they experienced staff shortages in the past six months.

2. Ninety percent of respondents said pharmacy technician roles have been the hardest position to fill.

3. Thirty-eight percent said the financial health of their pharmacy was "somewhat" or "very" poor.
