568% price hike for generic Prozac

Pharmaceutical Associates, a drugmaker based in Greenville, S.C., raised the price of its generic version of Prozac by 568 percent, according to The Financial Times.

The cost hike of the antidepressant, first reported on April 3, sets the price of a 120-milliliter bottle at $67.

The company also raised the price of a generic version of Vicodin and haloperidol, a schizophrenia treatment, by more than 100 percent, according to the report.

While triple-digit price hikes are not illegal, they are a rebuke of a common industry practice of keeping price increases below 10 percent annually.
