A North Carolina pharmacy owner pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud Medicare, North Carolina Medicaid and private insurers, the Justice Department said Oct. 6.
2. Former pharmacy owner sentenced to pay $4.1M for oxycodone sales
On Oct. 4, a judge sentenced a former pharmacy owner and his Pennsylvania pharmacy to pay $4.1 million for healthcare fraud and conspiracy to sell the controlled substance oxycodone.
3. CVS, Walmart face lawsuits over homeopathic products
An appellate court reversed lower court dismissals on Sept. 29 of two lawsuits that have been filed against CVS and Walmart, which accuse the retail pharmacy chains of selling homeopathic products that have no clinical benefit next to drugs that do work.
4. Mother, daughter pharmacy owners accused of $12M Medicare fraud scheme
Two Florida women were indicted Sept. 13 on charges stemming from an alleged scheme to defraud Medicare out of more than $12 million.
