A 66-year-old man with a rifle was shot and killed by police officers outside of Trinity Grand Haven (Mich.) Hospital July 9, according to The Detroit News.
Two officers from the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety were sent to the 81-bed hospital at 4:30 a.m. in response to the report of a suicidal man, who was armed with a rifle in the hospital parking lot when the officers arrived. Officers shot and killed the man as they attempted to intervene. Details on the events leading up to the shooting are not available in reports from local news outlets.
The shooting is under investigation by Michigan State Police and the officers who responded to the call have been placed on administrative leave.
A spokesperson for Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health told local Fox17 that the hospital campus was placed on a temporary lockdown shortly after 5 a.m. on July 9 and patients, visitors and colleagues were safe and unharmed.
