UPMC hospital on track to close by March

UPMC Pinnacle Lancaster in Pennsylvania closed a second hospital unit and is on track to cease all operations by March, a spokesperson confirmed to Lancaster Online.

Five things to know:

1. A spokesperson confirmed the closure of the hospital's behavioral health unit Jan. 18 in an email to the publication and said no new patients will be accepted.

2. The hospital closed its rehabilitation unit in December, less than two weeks after announcing plans to shutter the facility.

3. While the spokesperson declined to tell Lancaster Online when the hospital's other units would close, she said the institution "will keep the community informed of changes affecting patients when there are new updates to share," the report states.

4. Several community members have expressed concern about the closure, stating that other businesses use hospital facilities. However, the spokesperson said UPMC Pinnacle Lancaster is working with those organizations and will keep the community informed.

5. A notice filed with the Pennsylvania labor department earlier this month indicated 505 employees would be affected by the hospital's closure.
