St. Louis-based SSM Health Care has developed a place-in-line emergency room service to boost patient satisfaction and prevent crowding in the ER, according to a St. Louis Beacon report.
Under the service, patients who need to visit the ER for non-life-threatening conditions can have the hospital hold their place in line instead of physically waiting in line at the hospital, eliminating the need for patients to spend long periods of time in the hospital waiting room.
The program uses software that enables the hospital to use patient flow, wait times and other factors to direct patients to arrive at an opportune time. Patients can access the service via Twitter, Facebook or the health system website.
