Ohio hospital forced to evacuate patients, staff after fire breaks out

Patients and staff were evacuated Friday morning from Summa St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio, after a fire broke out around 6 a.m. in the facility's basement, according to News 5 Cleveland.

A hospital spokesperson told News 5 patients and staff were evacuated due to smoke billowing through the building. City buses were brought in to temporarily shelter many patients, and about 100 patients will be transferred to other hospitals, according to fire officials. 

The fire was contained around 8:30 a.m., and there were no injuries reported, the hospital spokesperson told News 5.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to WKYC.
