Lutheran Health Network to halt childbirth services at St. Joseph Hospital

Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network will stop providing childbirth services at its Fort Wayne-based St. Joseph Hospital May 6, reports The Journal Gazette.

When the services end at St. Joseph's, Lutheran Health Network will send maternity patients to one of its two other Fort Wayne hospitals — DuPont Hospital or Lutheran Children's Hospital.

"Both Lutheran and Dupont are in the early stages of significant, multi-phase renovations to their NICUs and birthplace units. We are confident patients will be pleased with the care and support they receive from our staff at Dupont and Lutheran Children's Hospital," a statement from the health system read.

The health network has been working with community organizations and referring physicians to ensure a seamless transition for patients.
