Central Maine Healthcare to close urgent care facility, primary care clinic as part of cost reduction plan

Lewiston-based Central Maine Healthcare will close its urgent care facility in Auburn, Maine, its primary care clinic in Mechanic Falls, Maine, and cut 38 jobs as part of a cost reduction plan to help offset the system's $12 million deficit in 2016, according to the Sun Journal.

Both facilities have seen revenue losses, contributing to the decision to close the urgent care clinic this month and the primary care clinic by Sept. 15.

The closings and job cuts are part of a plan to reduce the health system's expenses by 8 to 10 percent to see a profitable 2018, Jeff Brickman, the health system's CEO, told the Sun Journal.

Of the affected jobs, 10 are physicians, nine are associate professionals and 19 are support staff.
