Mountain Home, Ark.-based Baxter Regional Medical Center plans to close two clinics it operates within a local Walmart, the hospital said in a July 19 statement.
Baxter Regional will close its urgent care and rheumatology clinics, both in Mountain Home, Aug. 31.
"Closing a clinic might be one of the most difficult decisions a health system must ever have to make," David Fox, COO of Baxter Regional, said in a statement. "The area's sufficient coverage of urgent care options and a closer alignment of strategic objectives led to the decision."
Closure of the Baxter Regional Rheumatology Clinic comes as rheumatologist Safwan Sakr, MD, told the hospital he will be departing for another organization by Aug. 31.
"Dr. Sakr's departure coupled with challenges in recruitment of a rheumatologist over the past few years led to the decision to close this clinic," Mr. Fox said in the statement.
