43 patients evacuated after tornado strikes Iowa hospital

UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown (Iowa) evacuated 43 patients after a tornado hit the hospital July 19, according to a notice on the hospital's website.

The patients were transferred to the health system's Waterloo and Grundy Center hospitals in Iowa.

No staff members or patients were injured in the tornado, but the facility "sustained extensive damage," according to the notice.

UnityPoint Health–Marshalltown canceled all elective surgeries, appointments and procedures as of July 20. The hospital shut down services and departments at its main campus and moved its emergency department, which is open 24-7, to an alternate location.
