An important, but often overlooked, part of the patient experience is the food. At a vulnerable time, a good meal can make a huge difference in a patient's comfort.
A recent blog post from nurse staffing agency Sunbelt Staffing took a look at what hospitals around the world consider patient comfort food. Sunbelt Staffing used data from catering menus and government guidelines to recreate the meals served in hospitals around the world. Here are its findings.
- United States — Chicken pot pie, broccoli, chocolate chip cookie, coffee
- United Kingdom — Cornish pasty, savoy cabbage, rice pudding, tea
- Switzerland — Quiche, fig and walnut salad, éclair, apple juice
- Germany — Creamed beef, peas, corn, strudel, bread
- Spain — Chorizo and pepper rice, fruit salad, orange juice
- Italy — Gnocchi with tomato sauce, water, fresh fruit
- Australia — Plum chicken, rice, chopped apple, cranberry juice
- Russia — Buckwheat pudding, cottage cheese, coffee
- Mexico — Omelet with tomato and pepper salsa, chopped papaya, water
- Canada — Baked salmon, peas and carrots, corn, water
