Healthgrades launched a new digital tool to provide patients with engagement and support between medical visits.
The tool, called CareChats, is an automated chatbot powered by Conversa. CareChats enables two-way text and email communication between patients and a chatbot, which initiates conversations about education and goals for patients in need of chronic condition, surgery and health coaching management.
A team of professional writers created year-long conversations for the product, which were reviewed by physicians to ensure clinical relevance. CareChats also encourages patients to book appointments and engages providers if it detects the need for clinical intervention.
"Most consumers see their doctor a few times per year, but between these visits, a lot of life happens," said Brad Bowman, MD, CMO of Healthgrades. "Communicating with patients between visits really gives providers a glimpse into their lives — about who they are, where they live and how they live."
Several hospitals and health systems have already implemented CareChats, including New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System; Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Penrose-St. Francis Health Services; and Covina, Calif.-based Citrus Valley Health Partners.
